This is the story of two Black women whose very different lives become linked. Eleanor is a student from rural Ohio who is studying at Howard University. Ruby is a poor teen in a rough section of Philadelphia. Both are working toward better lives and are falling in love.

I appreciated the beautiful writing and character development. I had a more difficult time buying into the love stories. The story is based on history in the 1950’s and I found the epilogue to be quite interesting.
