This book is so damn intense, and weird, and oh my god it's so gory it's almost unreal. The body horror in this novel was on point, it was so visceral and horrifying. Between the crazy cult and the vivid descriptions of rotting bodies, guts hanging out, skin peeling off - this book was just absolutely wild from start to finish.

As much as this is a horror book, the main focus of the story is survival and the strength it takes to be who you are, even when the world is seemingly against you. Somet

i really wanted to like this one because it started off so strong, but about halfway through it became a chore to read.

pros: great representation of the gender spectrum, of autism in its many forms, and of religious oppression and the way evangelicals have a warped sense of reality and the bible.

cons: characters exist but don’t really have a unique voice or perspective; has an ending that goes off more like a whimper than a bang - and with such a buildup, i thought there would be more; had des

I want to preface this by stating that I am probably not the intended target audience for this book, being a slightly older queer than those the author likely had in mind while writing. Nevertheless, this was an entertaining read and I appreciated that the writing didn't shy away from the body horror elements, which were possibly my favourite part.

The queer and neurodivergent representation was also pretty good, but frankly speaking, I am in a moment in my life where I'm no

This book did what I wish so many others did. It describes love, loss, family conflict, and friendship in such an honest and realistic way. It is also an amazing insight into how belief can become destructive and how the line between being good and causing suffering can sometimes blur. Not to mention it has amazing, well-thought-out queer character (in my personal opinion, every book should.)

When I finished this book (in just two days), I sat with the ending. It was satisfying and what I needed

I absolutely could not put this book down.
Body horror, religious trauma, queerness, gender, autistic representation, diverse characters.
I was scared this book was overhyped but it honestly HIT so hard for me as a queer autistic person lol
I love reading books where I can relate to the characters (even though they are facing unimaginable horrors but I mean…mood the world is harsh)
I cannot wait to read more from this author
