OH MY GOD. I can’t even find the right words to describe how good this book was. Lauren Roberts is god tier. I literally could not put the book down.
The romance, the trials, the balls, the banter, the TENSION- everything you want and need in a good romantasy book is all here! Paedyn Gray is the embodiment of a well written, bad ass, loveable main character- she has lost and loved and lost everything (again) in a split second, i am both excited and dreading for what comes next for our girl.

Daaaamn the ending was so painful. And I thought the second book is already out so I was like "let's order it right now" but no 🥲 The tension killed me throughout the book and I didn't know if it was supposed to be a love triangle or not. It seemed a bit unfair to Kitt.. But I am pretty sure we are going to see an evil side of him in the next book, and I am also anticipating a good enemies to lovers trope. 🤭

This is definitely the best book I've read in a while, marking my return to the fantasy/romantasy genre, but it wasn't without its flaws. It felt like Lauren took ‘The Hunger Games’, plopped it in the Middle Ages, and added ✨magic✨. Paedyn Gray was literally Katniss Everdeen 2.0 and even had a violent dark-haired boy and a sweet-as-can-be blondie to choose from.
