I had mixed feelings about this book. The first third is quite slow, and I almost gave up on it, but once the story picks up, it accelerates fast. The concept of people with unique abilities is intriguing but doesn’t feel very original. I think it’s an entertaining read for young adults. It really reminds me of the X-Men movies, with Juliette being a lot like Jean—just without the telepathy. This was not for me, but now that I’ve started the series I’ll now feel obligated to finish it.
Not at all a fan of this writing style. Also listened to this one on audio. This noise kept happening that I thought was a typewriter or something but turns out it was actually the sound of someone crossing out a line of words. Sentences were so repetitive it was painful and I literally felt like the entire book was overflowing with metaphors and similes, most of which didn’t make any sense at all. I d ...more
