A modern re-telling of "The Fall of the House of Usher," T. Kingfisher does a great job of maintaining the horror and imagination of Poe's original short story.

What Moves the Dead was a surprising turn from what I've come to love about T Kingfisher's stories. While her knack for vivid descriptions still shines, the shift into horror territory didn't grip me as much as Kingfisher's fantasy adventures.

Wow, what a fantastic expansion on Poe’s classic short story, ‘The Fall of the House of Usher’! I love when science fiction novels are plausible in their explanations, but when the characters are well-written, realistic, accurate to their time period, AND take actions that make logical sense, I don’t know what to do with myself. And on top of all of that, the writing is phenomenal! What a spectacular quick read. I highly recommend it.
