A verrrrry generous 3 stars ⭐️ This book definitely fell victim to overhyping for me. The writing is so jarring I legitimately think I have whiplash. It tried hard to be lyrical and high fantasy but had a ton of modern phrasing thrown in. Sarah A. Parker isn't an author I have a ton of experience with. I hate-read To Bleed a Crystal Bloom (and gave it a well-deserved 1 star) so going into this I guess I wasn't expecting very much. For the first 60% of this book, I was on board to be wrong about this author. And then the book just...kept...going.

“Chase death, Moonbeam. And I pray your bloodlust brings you the same sense of peace I feel just knowing you exist.”
This is hard for me to rate because it was hard for me to read and I think some of it has to do with the writing. On the surface there are some very pretty quotes like the one above but the problem is this type of writing isn't just scattered across the book, it's literally all the time.
