‘The Real Lolita’ by Sarah Weinman is a nonfiction true crime read comparing the kidnapping of Sally Horner to Vladimir Nabokov's 'Lolita'. I had read this title before as past of the true crime book club I was in pre-Covid, but I still learned new things this second read. This book read like narrative nonfiction, which made reading about such heavy topics easier. This was so fascinating and intriguing. It was well-written, and I think highlights the unfairness of media attention in that a real child was kidnapped and abused for years, but more people know about the fictionalized story of "Lolita" written by Nabokov than the real Sally Horner. Very moving.
