It was mostly good, but there are some things to nitpick.

In the future, the real world sucks, so most people spend their time in virtual reality. The creator of this world (a year or two older than I) grew up in the 80s, and when he dies, he leaves his fortune to whoever can find the “easter egg” he’s hidden in the world. This results in a big resurgence of 80s culture. There is a lot of 80s nostalgia here, which is fun, but some references are to things after the 80s.

Holy shit this book is totally incredible!! The twists, the action, the complexity of it all! I loved the concept of the OASIS, the way that it was set up, all of the real games and real movies and books and songs and everything. I just wished I knew the 80s so that I could relate more. Finding out that (view spoiler) That was a totally jaw-dropping moment. And also the moment wh ...more

A nerdgasm- John Scalzi

The above sentence abridges Ready Player One, quite nicely. Ready Player One is not for everyone. However, I cannot give a simple description of the person(s) it’d be geared toward. On the one hand, it’s overloaded with 80’s paraphernalia, from movies to music, and, obviously, video games, but it’s strictly the nerdiest topics in the 80’s. Then there’s the dystopian element, although it’s not heavily engrained within the novel, yet quite nec

By FAR the most fun book I've read in I don't know how long. It's like "The Goonies"-meets-"The Hunger Games"-meets-"Freaks and Geeks" is the absolutely best possible way. Uber-geeks are the new rock stars, if this book and Ernest Cline is any indicator. Read it - you'll love it and towards the end you'll be dying to know how it works out but also unhappy that you'll actually be done reading it because it's so enjoyable. ...more

This was an unexpected joy of a read on the beach in Puerto Vallarta, Mexicol I can't believe how many pop references there are in every single paragraph, FORGET page. Was there a lesson? Live for yourself, maybe. But I think I personally knew that one already. It's good to be reminded that no one is going to believe in what you do or who you are more than yourself - so do what only you can do/make/be.
Definitely a book I'd like to gift to a couple friends.
