É, não foi para mim. Eu consigo enxergar o que é que faz esse livro ser tão comentado, mas ao mesmo tempo ele não conseguiu me conquistar para que eu sentasse na janela do trem da hype. Culpo principalmente a escrita do livro. Por mais que eu entenda a escolha estilística da autora para representar a mente fragmentada da narradora, esse foi o maior empecilho para que eu me conectasse à estória e a que grande revelação tivesse algum impacto quando viesse à tona. Ela é interessante e metafórica, m É, não foi para mim. Eu consigo enxergar o que é que faz esse livro ser tão comentado, mas ao mesmo tempo ele não conseguiu me conquistar para que eu sentasse na janela do trem da hype. Ela é interessante e metafórica, mas também insípida e propositalmente vaga.

Até a metade do livro, a autora escondeu demais o que estava realmente acontecendo do leitor. Por diversas vezes eu tive que voltar e reler algumas passagens anteriores para ter certeza que não era culpa minha de não estar entendendo o livro. Não era. Só me eram oferecidos pequenos retratos da vida familiar e da amizade dos Mentirosos, nada que me dessem uma sensação de conexão e profundidade. Depois da metade do livro, os problemas da família foram ficando mais claros (obviamente acompanhando o aumento de clareza da mente da personagem principal), mas como não estava investida na estória até aquele momento, não foi o suficiente para que eu realmente me importasse com o que estava sendo revelado. O foreshadowing do início do livro e apresentação dos personagens foram insuficientes para dar força ao grande plot twist. O que me deixou super chateada, porque é um ótimo plot twist. A interação da Candice com os outros personagens depois da revelação também não ajudou em nada a me deixar maravilhada. Mas isso acho que é muito mais por uma visão pessoal, por que eu não acredito nisso. Outra coisa que me deixou decepcionada foi a falta de consequência após a revelação. Entendo que seja para demonstrar como gente rica se livra de qualquer cilada, mas mesmo assim achei que precisava ter tido mais punição no final. Ficou tudo meio, ok sofreremos emocionalmente, mas como temos dinheiro nada disso importa... Tipo, WTF?

Enfim, no final das contas eu estou mais no lado das pessoas que não viram nada demais nesse livro. Se eu for honesta, diria que já estava esperando por isso, mas eu realmente queria ter gostado mais de We Were Liars (Mentirosos). ...more

If you have plans to read this book, which I think you should DO NOT SPOIL YOURSELF. Don't skip pages, don't read reviews. Just don't. You're better off not knowing ANYTHING, trust me.

Fantastic! Really special book. I wasn't able to put it down. The writing style is so rich and unique. It gives a dream like feel. It's like you're reading through a fog in a best way possible.

WE WERE LIARS shocked and gripped me. Not only did it have a haunting twist, but it had amazing characters and tackles issues such as illness, trauma, class and race. The book, as well as being a mystery leaves the reader with a powerful message. I really enjoyed and flew through this book - the perfect book to read in the car.

Mind= Blown! I had seen many many mixed reviews for this book. I decided to read it because it was recommended for fans of Gone Girl. It was no Gone Girl, but for me the twist was much less expected than the one from Gone Girl. With GG, I pretty much know nearly halfway in how it would end. But this, I wasn't expecting at all. I was expecting some sort of betrayal, but not the twist ending that was bestowed on us. I really loved it. I was glued and read it in a day! :) ...more

This book is.....something else.
Strange but so beautifully crafted
I dove into this book and fell in love with the writing style, the setting and the perfectly flawed Sinclair family.
The actual story though took some time for me to grasp. The timeline of it all was at times confusing and soon the pages blurred by. Midway through the book I found myself getting a little bored.
But I must say the ending picked up and I fell back in love. This is a tragic but memorable book.
