Once upon a time there was a kingdom ruled by a vicious tyrant, who is considered to be a god, named Lord Ruler. He was prophesized to save the world from this great evil, but instead he enslaved it. He now rules along with his enforcers and Inquisitors in a world where ash falls from the sky and mists lurk at night. But there is one man, a survivor, sworn to destroy this unfair and cruel system and simultaneously free his people, the skaa from noblesmen’s hold. This man, Kelsier, has the ability to use metals in order to acquire powers such as super strength and super endurance, that ability is usually referred to as Allomancy. There are 10 types of metal that an Allomancer can burn, each giving him a certain power. The Alomancer that can burn all the 10 metals is called a Mistborn. That’s what Kelsier is, and so is Vin. Kelsier strongly believes that he can defeat the Lord Ruler with a powerful Eleventh Metal, that’s why he assembles a team of powerful Allomancers to help him achieve his goal.
Vin, a sixteen year old orphan skaa, has learned the hard way one simple rule ‘Trust no one, everyone will eventually betray you’. She is used to by now of people leaving her first of them all being her brother Reen. But when Kelsier recruits her and offers to teach her more about her powers, Vin has no choice but to take part in what seems to be a bizarre plan to free the skaa and defeat the Lord Ruler once and for all.
I adored this book, the depth of the characters, the realistic approach to a high fantasy concept. The best way to describe it is a mix of Oceans Eleven meets Fantasy meets awesomeness. I enjoyed everyone’s point of view especially Kelsiers (because he is awesome duh!), but to tell you the truth Vin’s point of view wasn’t my favorite in the beginning. While I can see where her constant suspicion comes from that doesn’t mean I like it, so I can honestly say that one of my favorite aspects of the book was Vin learning to trust people and developing relationship with the other crew members, especially Kelsier who had by the end of the book become something of a father figure to our young protagonist.
My favorite thing about this book, aside from the wonderful cast of characters, is the pacing. It was just so on point with the story! Nothing felt too rushed or unexplained, not for a second did I feel the story drag and that’s a very positive thing especially if a fantasy book is concerned. If you go into this book expecting constant action packed scenes then you will be disappointed. Are there any action packed moments? Yes, through the entire book especially near the end But that not all that there is too it. The entire book is about executing this crazy plan. We see what every character’s responsibility is and how that character contributes to the story. Having read only young adult fantasy before Mistborn I was used to Fantasy being basically action packed scenes with a few lazy descriptions and not enough character development (with a few exceptions of course), but Mistborn is nothing like that. Brandon Sanderson not only tackles important issues in the book such as economy, slavery, power abuse etc. but he also vividly paints a flawed society that he ensures is analytically described to his readers so that everything is thoroughly explained

Okay...so um yeah that was frickin amazing. Definitely one of my all time favorite books. The magic in this novel was brilliant and so imaginative. The fight scenes were perfection. It was literally like watching a movie in my head. I loved each and every character. They all had something to contribute to the story. I can't wait to see what happens in the rest of the series. ...more

The magic system was very interesting and I was a fan of most of the side characters. Really enjoyed some bits but I didn't connect as much as I thought I would... Didn't meet the hype in my opinion. ...more
