I am re-posting this review for the Group Read "Waif" for November 2024 [SPLATTERPUNK BOOK CLUB]

THE WAIF [2021] By Samantha Kolesnik
My Review 3.5 Stars

“The Waif” [2021] is one of two designated Group Reads on the Splatterpunk Book Club for the month of November.

This book was a quick read, it was selected for my November read. This book was about a woman named “Angie”, we follow her story in a not so happy marriage and dealing with the inner dialogue of a woman questioning her self and self worth. She has a chance encounter with a man and this awakens the hidden desires she had and how she would very much like to act on them. This book explores the seedy world of porn and botched surgery. An interesting read nonetheless.

Wow, what a breath of fresh horror air; I loved the unique perspective that led down a crazy path I never saw coming. A bit of strange editing (no spoiler here promise) in the last third is the only reason for my 4 instead of a 5. I will definitely be reading more of this author’s work!

She doesn’t like her abusive husband & one night, after a fight, she drives to a store. She “meets” a guy she immediately fixates on & follows him home. All the guy wanted to know was where the marshmallows were.

She leads her husband to believe that maybe something happened & he makes her tell him
