What Members Thought

Joan Didion gets a lot of plaudits as a writer. I have found her writing a bit hit and miss. Some of her work resonates with me, others not so much. All down to personal preference and opinion because she was clearly a great writer.
This short book is very much a hit with me. The prose is sparse and yet so evocative. The story is bleak, the characters flawed, and there is a naturalistic content of dialogue. It made me think of the Cassavetes movies Shadows and Faces in particular.
