This book ends with an observation by Larry Gelbart, "It was a bad dream--but one we are dreaming again." Unfortunately, he seems to be right. The nightmare which many loyal Americans experienced in the late 30s and 40s when the House Un-American Committee declared war on Hollywood still echoes in our history, and into our future as the right has become the arbitrator of what a 'good' American is.
