This novel was particularly good, although I preferred Helen as an accomplice; mature and poised. She was omitted after marrying. George is a tomboy who too often refers to Bess’s weight. It is appalling that she seemed to have been dubbed a picked-on figure. She’s looked upon as blundering: the most timid in dangerous situations; if anyone stumbles, it is she. If anyone accidentally alerts villains of their presence; again blame falls on this allegedly useless sleuth, who nonetheless consensual
