I liked this novel. The teenaged sleuth is serious, not foolishly caught up in intrigue for implausible reasons. Although in Eric Wilson’s first book Tom taunted train passengers, he is usually respectful and compassionate. This amplifies in “The Kootenay Kidnapper” and “Cold Midnight In Vieux Québec”. Even Dietmar Oban is at last concerned and more mature. Perhaps the series accounts for older boys in 1989. Less nonsense pock-marks the story’s point, which I as an adult reader appreciate.
