Books differ from stories on film. A burst of curiosity accompanies our first visual glimpses. The novelty makes it difficult for a sequel to recapture that lustre. An author explains people, premise, setting, sentence by sentence. It is a while before they can turn to the main point of a first volume, with that job to do.
