Revering every title with “Anne” in it, or thinking none worthy but a series’ famous volume, are not feedback I will trust. I loved the previous, fourth story. The first half of this story was going the same way, absolutely lovely!
A dramatic drop and needless, extreme events horrified me into hating this novel. I settled on a second star, ONLY to offset the disadvantage of not closing on the joy, beauty, and warmth of the beginning. I think my grade would be as low but for this novel, warning me ...more

first read in 1998
April 2016: I must have been in a cynical mood when I read this the first time because I was charmed by it and all the fun characters Gilbert and Anne meet at the little house. Captain Jim was delightful and his "life book" got written and it was all so charmingly Anne. I loved it.
