We need ten star grades. Half stars do not equal them. I bestowed five stars throughout this superior series but far preferred some stories. They all attain a level of quality that less favoured content or writing did not subtract. The atmosphere of volume 1 was enchanting and suspenseful throughout. Not knowing or loving anyone, except Blue’s Mom and Richard, was offset by wondrous discovery and awe.

Not knowing or loving anyone, except Blue’s Mom and Richard, was offset by wondrous discovery and awe.

I almost call volume 2 filler, except it supplemented useful acquaintance with the characters and families. I dislike Duncan, was weary of Adam, and think Noah should soothe his own family or be gone. I am empathetic but nothing excuses being jerks or sullen. Richard, his Parents, and Sister are sweethearts; despite having dangerous trouble.

I feel for Adam’s wrenching decision better than most, to report abusive loved-ones or not. A novel featuring Duncan (must the spinoff series be about him?!!!) and a repulsive boy, crashing cars and kidnapping kids, begged to be graded lower. There was more ugliness than excitement.

The talking, vision producing forest who inspires our awe, was only visited by the fighting Duncan and repugnant Joe. The clue-solving king investigation was paused. “Paranormal mystery” quests, not romance or violence, are what I love: thus the two big draws were absent. The previous novel scraped by with five stars because it yielded just enough positive emotional breakthroughs and information.

“Blue Lily, Lily Blue” has ugly actions and worse characters that the novels and readers could do without. Thankfully, exploring the leyline forest named Cabeswater, returned. A trek to the raven king’s legend began producing paranormal entities and results. This novel brought back the intrigue and fun and amped up the creativity!

The volumes are clearly delineated:
1) introduction,
2) helpful filler,
3) advanced progress, details, and growth in the group.

Nov 2019: I alternately listened & read a copy from the library. I had forgotten how dense this story is and how much is going on in it. And I still love it!

Jan 2016: prepping for "Raven King" by listening to this again; still love!

2015: As always with this series, language warning. It's rough. But the story is so good and the writing is so great that I reluctantly tolerant the really bad language. Blue and the boys are still searching for Glendower but it's all gotten lots more complicated and ...more
