Wow. So, I enjoyed the author’s previous work (Under Locke) but I didn’t expect to love this book so much! It was amazing!

I knew from the blurb that the hero was going to be a total asshole. And I’m in such a mood for that type of hero that I couldn’t resist starting it asap. I’m completely addicted to jerk heroes at the moment and this book just screamed at me.

Like I said, I enjoyed Under Locke and saw no reason that I wouldn’t enjoy this one. But from the moment I started it, I couldn’t put it

An older man/younger woman trope wrapped in a sharp, intelligent, and well-balanced sports-themed (soccer) romance. It is definitely one of the best I've read in a long while, and its magic is in the details.

Championship soccer players, both Sal and Kulti, are facing some difficult challenges in their careers. Their interaction begins on rocky ground when Kulti becomes the assistant coach for a women's soccer team, moving into an admiration and friendship-type relationship. Slowly, the pieces b

"Put your Big Girl Socks on" and read this book!!

This was my first book by Mariana Zapata and I am now in love!!! I loved the smart and snarky humor that kept me interested and invested in this story of life and sports and love.
Salomé "Sal" Casillas grows up idolizing Reiner "The King" Kulti. When her professional Woman's Soccer team hires him on as assistant coach, the media sits up and takes notice.

"Destiny is a ladder, a series of steps that takes you where you’re supposed to go. I am the ma

I have always loved sports-themed books and this was one of the best I've ever read.
A slow-building, simmering romance that takes place in the competitive world of soccer, not something you see too often in books. Zapata effortlessly weaved the story of Sal and Reiner Kulti. She grew up idolizing the world famous soccer star, but became a bit disillusioned of him when he did something that nearly cost her older brother his career. Their worlds collide though when a grown-up Sal now plays profes

This author's unique style resonated with me. I found myself being pulled into the story by the characters. The plot could have been a little slow because it was light on drama (thankfully)however I wasn't tempted to skip read at all. So glad I gave this one a try.

I loved this book so much that I owe it to myself to come back and write a full review. For now, I'll just say that Kulti kept me awake till 1:00am. I could not stop reading until I was finished -- knowing full well that it would cost me the next day when my kids woke up!

The very best thing about this book? The slow burn romance between two adults. As a reader, it was such a joy and privilege to get to watch these two characters, Sal and Kulti, become friends first and then fall, slowly and ine
