Prepare yourselves! This author definitely puts feelings to her words. Over the past few months, I’ve read several books with a similar theme and thought they were good. But none came close to this one. Oh geez, this one just messed me up. I don’t remember ever crying this hard over a book, yet feeling like smiling because something extraordinary just happened. A truly unforgettable reading experience.

The story surrounds Kate, Keller, and Gus, along with numerous superb secondary characters.

Kate is a person who always sees the bright side of everything. She makes the darkest days in her friends' and loved ones' lives bright. And even on the darkest days of her life, she brightens the days for those around her. Kate is a remarkably admirable, talented, and quirky lovable character. I loved the strengths she exhibited from beginning to ending. Her originality in style and the independent and self-reliant tendencies she holds so solidly are amazing and make her such a unique and memorable character. But Kate is keeping a secret – a big one.

Gus has been Kate’s best friend since childhood. He’s a talented musician on his way to the big time, along with his band of merry music makers. He's a blond hunky surfer. And he smokes like a fiend – which Kate calls him on often. He’s loyal and true in their friendship. They’ve only stepped over the line into a one-night-stand once – on the night before he heads one way and she heads across country the other way. Gus has shared everything with Kate. Well, except for one secret.

Keller is beautiful – inside and out, as well as smart, friendly and a very hard worker. As soon as he appeared on the page, my heart fluttered and flipped. He’s got a magnetism about him that woos all females – and he’s honest about it. He doesn’t play games. He’s got a path to success set out before him and he's sticking to it. And he’s definitely not looking for a serious relationship. Well, not until he lays eyes on the new girl in town, who comes in for a coffee and ends up being the best and brightest part of his day. And yes, Keller is keeping a secret, too.

No negative criticisms where this book is concerned. It will require Kleenex. You’ll want to beg and plead before it’s all over. You’ll be sad and happy, you’ll laugh and cry throughout. But when all is said and done, I think you’ll see the Bright Side.

What a great and heartbreaking story! Be prepared to ugly cry. I can honestly say I've never cried so much reading a book.

Kate Sedgwick has faced many adversities in her young life; having a mother who was not so motherly, an absent father and a sister, Grace, to care for all on her own. I honestly have no way to express the way I feel about this book. Other than the fact that I friggin loved this book so much I'm having withdrawals. I have no words to describe it but I can only encourage those brave enough to have your heart ripped out to give this book a go.

I cried so much and I wished so hard for things to change but I wouldn't have changed this story at all. I am so glad I took a chance on this book. I don't think my life will ever be the same. ...more
