Mia Sheridan’s writing here is like an unchained melody - beautiful in its lyrics but untamed in the dimensions and layers of its mysteries. Maybe 3 stars is even a bit generous, but the first half did keep me engaged and that counts to me. I mostly continued because I wanted to know what could possibly be going on and I assumed it would get better as I’m used to from this author. The writing was also good as per usual but I am still so disappointed. I have not read a Mia Sheridan book that I did not like until now. I don't know how to rate this book. I love Mia Sheridan's writing, and I love the idea behind this story and her sensitivity to one of the main topics she addresses in the book, but honestly, I'm just not sure I understand what all happened, and I even reread the end to see if I missed something. I guess I needed her to beat me over the head with it. I kind of think I know, but because I'm not positive, it kept it from having an impact on me as a reader.
