This is definitely a case of it's not you it's me. Unfortunately for me I don't think I ever fully connected with the characters. The story was a good one, and maybe if I read it at another time I would have felt more while reading it. I have read another book that I loved that had a similar story and part of me could not help comparing the two. That may be the reason I didn't get invested in this one as much as I would have liked. M. Leighton has beautifully written a love story that transcends those darkest and stormiest moments in our lives. I cried openly throughout this too realistic story. My heart broke into pieces. But I smiled, too. In the darkness, there is light. And it shone brightly in the love that Lena and Nate shared.

Without a doubt, that old Mason jar on my pantry shelf will have a whole different meaning now. An amazing story with lessons that will remain with me for a long time to come.

I will preface this review of The Empty Jar by saying that I recently lost my mother after watching her suffer through cancer. And given that, it took me awhile to finish this book. I had to stop and pick it back up when the emotions got to be too much.

This is such a moving, poignant emotional story. This book had me doing the ugly cry, but it wasn't all doom and gloom. There were moments of humor, too. You really do feel like you're seeing a couple that have been through so much together and w
