I loved this book! I'm fairly new to this author's writing, but this was not at all what I had expected. The story starts with Paris stealing a bottle of bourbon and turns into a masterpiece of storytelling.

If you're expecting erotica from this Tiffany Reisz novel (and, given her previous books, you could be forgiven for thinking this), then you're in for a shock. This is a Gothic-inspired family drama/thriller. Actually, it's quite genre-defying! But what I know for sure is this is a gripping read. Plot and subplots galore, intriguing characters and Reisz's usual excellent writing make for an unputdownable book. You can't rush it, because the story is so complex, so savour it.

What a beautiful, winding and twisty road this story took me on. I was hooked from the first page. The writing is amazing. The story is perfect. I really don't feel like I have the words to relate how original and beautiful and absolutely heartbreaking this story was. ...more
