Wow! Just finished this one and I am very impressed. This is one of only a couple M/M romance books I have read. I read Try by Ella Frank, and it was all kinds of HOT! But I had a hard time connecting to the characters. I never felt truly invested in the romance in that book. I wasn't sure if it was because I had a hard time connecting because it was M/M or if it was because Try was an erotic romance, where the sex was the primary focus and story and characters came secondary. Now I know! Because Texas Pride had me from the very beginning.

It was heartbreaking getting to know Kitt and Austin and the lack of choices both felt they had. Both hide being gay and live a lonely existence, scared of being caught.

Secrets only held when nothing broke through the carefully planned lies.

Austin's trapped in the makings of his Hollywood fame and Kitt in the ultra-conservative, rural communitty he's tied to. I loved seeing how the romance developed between Kitt and Austin. So well done. The sex was steamy and was done very tastefully. I've read several menage stories including some MMF but I wasn't sure how sexy a straight up M/M romance would be. I'll just say, I wasn't disappointed, at all.

“It feels good... move a little to the left…. Yeah! Fuck, Austin! That feels good.”

“You’re mine Kitt. Say it. Say you’re mine.” Austin jackhammered his hips, relentlessly pounding into Kitt. He pushed down harder with the hand holding Kitt’s hips forcing his ass a little higher in the air.

“Say it Kitt. You’ve made me wait too long. Say it,” Austin demanded, panting between deep breaths.

“I’m gonna come,” Kitt said through deep, breathy moans.

His response caused Austin to drive harder into his ass. Austin said something as Kitt’s body felt like it was ripping apart. The lines of pleasure and pain blurred. Kitt reached out fisting the sleeping bag, shoving his ass higher in the air to get his other hand around his own engorged cock.

“Say it,” Austin growled, changing his position when he realized Kitt was stroking himself underneath. He pushed Kitt’s hand away, and gripped Kitt’s dick, squeezing it tightly, refusing to let him come. The pounding never stopped.

“Say it, and I’ll get you off,” Austin bellowed.

“… I’m yours…” It came out in a whimper.

“Yeah you are.”

Texas Pride was a great M/M romance for a newbie to the genre like me. Well done all the way around! The writing was solid, the romance was well paced, and the sex was steamy. I loved the characters and when I closed my kindle, I felt like I had finished a great romance. 4.5 SOLID STARS. Loved it! Excited to read more from this author! ...more

This was a great read. Ok, so maybe I'm a bit biased as I just moved to Texas the week before I read this book. But whatever! A great slow burn romance, lots of small town drama, and of course some very sexy ranchers to keep you wanting more. A solid 4.5 star read. A must read for every KA fan. ...more

First up, let me say I have never been a huge fan of western-style romances. I was probably the only M/M fan on the planet who did not like Brokeback Mountain. (I wanted them to chuck their restrictive lives and move to New York and be happy. Why stay in homophobic small-town America and be miserable was always my question.) But that’s just me. So because of that, it takes an extremely well-written cowboy romance to win me over. When I saw that Texas Pride had a lot of 5 star reviews on Amazon a First up, let me say I have never been a huge fan of western-style romances. Why stay in homophobic small-town America and be miserable was always my question.) But that’s just me. So because of that, it takes an extremely well-written cowboy romance to win me over. When I saw that Texas Pride had a lot of 5 star reviews on Amazon and GoodReads, I was intrigued and picked it up.

There are some absolutely great things about Texas Pride. One, the chemistry between Kitt and Austin is off-the-charts. Once they finally get together, it’s 100 mph to the finish line of love. Second, Austin’s coming out seemed realistic and I could see the paparazzi outing someone famous for a big payday. And while I liked those things, the main reason I did not rate the book higher were the following three things:

1.) Poor editing – Yes, I know this doesn’t bother some readers, but as a teacher, an author not knowing the difference between you’re and your kind of grates on my nerves. I know good, professional editors are hard to find for self-published authors, but in my estimation they are absolutely necessary to make the story flow. YMMV, but this dropped it one star for me.

2.) Surprise twist – This came at nearly the very end of the novel and added nothing to further the plot. It was a surprise that went nowhere, so in my estimation should have been deleted in edits. I removed .5 stars for that.

3.) POV shifts galore – At 71% in we get a POV not from Kitt or Austin, but Austin’s pretend girlfriend, Cara. It made no sense at that late in the book to add her POV. Add in some sleazy paparazzi’s POV at like 78% and I was lost. Most of these POVs could have been taken out during an edit and the plot points they revealed explained in another manner. Another .5 stars subtracted.

Now, I don’t want people to think I didn’t like this book. I did. I found the characters engaging once they got together and the plot of a closeted Hollywood is a favorite trope of mine. However, I can’t give it a full recommendation for the reasons listed above. However, if editing/POV issues do not bother you in the slightest, Texas Pride just might be your type of book.

This book came to me as a recommendation from a friend. Absolutely amazing read. I loved every page of this beautifully written story. Austin & Kitt's story made my heart beat faster as I read deeper into their story. This will not be the last book for me. I look forward to reading everything by Kindle:) ...more
