After months and months of emailing back and forth, Alex decides to surprise Eric Collins by showing up at his private birthday party at the Dive Bar in a slinky outfit that will make her intentions clear to one and all. The surprise's on her when Eric disavows any knowledge of her and denies ever having messaged her at any time. Turns out it's a case of identity fraud as Alex has been chatting with someone other than Eric.

Just as she's about to leave the bar in disgrace, up steps Eric's brother Joe who identifies Alex on sight. Turns out the the guy she's been chatting with for months is really Joe. Alex has history with deceit in her life and isn't in the mood to find out why he felt the need to impersonate his brother. Normally that would have been the end of the story except karma and mother nature decide to intervene giving Joe a second chance.

This was a story that didn't rely on supernatural beings or affluent main characters who could utilize money to impress their lady love. It features a blue collar worker and blossoming graphic artist who meet up on an online dating site and decide to continue as internet friends due to long distance restrictions. Things change when one of them (Alex) unilaterally decides to fly out to Idaho to surprise Eric (Joe) for his birthday. Things don't turn out quite as expected and the remainder of the story deals with a mixture of angst, misunderstanding, heart ache, family, physical looks, and a whole lot of chemistry.

The romance between the two has a friends to lovers theme. Friendship turns to passion which transitions to some HAWT adult content bedroom action between the two. Then comes the hard part as the two have to work to resolve their issues if they have any chance at a HEA.

Secondary characters add to the world building as the crew of the Dive Bar take turns interacting with the main characters. Some times in a positive but other times not so much. My favorite secondary character hands down is Valerie. If she ever decides to drop Alex as her bestie, I'm moving in. I know that would never happen as these two have each other's back and always will but I want a Valerie of my own some day.

Problematic areas of the story include some editing/grammatical missteps though not to any degree that drew me out of the story. Other than that there was a degree of lag in the story line that I struggled to get through, but, that might be a personal thing.

This was a fun read that worked in featuring a mainstream couple who had obstacles that many working class individuals encounter. The difference is the author was able to elevate those circumstances to have me believe that for all the Joe and Alexs' in the world anything is possible. ...more

Twist is funny, sweet and romantic. A nice addition to the Dive Bar series with a couple of the guys from her previous series showing up. I look forward to the next book in the series.

Mistaken identity when Alex shows up at the Dive Bar to finally meet up with Eric he has no idea who she is and why she's there to see him, things finally all come together when Joe sees her, what will happen will there be fireworks of the good kind or will Alex walk away go come to her old life? ...more
