5 stars after a re read.
I love this book.
It is truly truly beautiful!
Violet Winters has moved the The 'Burg after losing her cop husband to a crime lord, a crime lord who then took an interest in her, and "stalked" her for months.
She moves in next door to Joe Callahan.
At first, they get off on the wrong foot!
Wasn't that just the shit of it? There I was, in my predicament and I had security to the fucking stars living next door and I hated him because he was a huge jerk
But they have an attr ...more

This one started off a bit rocky for me. Who knows - maybe I've reached overload. I've certainly binged on Kristen Ashley's books since the first of the year. After putting this one aside several times, I picked it back up and continued on. And I'm ever so glad that I did!
The biggest negative in "At Peace" was that Violet's behavior wasn't ringing true for me. Her personality and her actions just didn't balance. Prior to Joe, a man she feared, she had only one other lover -- her husband. In wha ...more

Wow!! Kristen Ashley makes magic when she puts pen to paper!! After rereading At Peace I am reminded how much I love Joe, Vi and the girls!!
“You’re mine, the girls are mine. I’m stakin’ my claim with you right now"
At Peace is one of my favorite KA stories. It is sweet but packs an emotional punch. It's one that will make me tear up no matter how many times I read it.
“I’m not empty anymore.”
Silence then, “Joe—”
“Full to bursting, buddy.”
A breathy, “Joe.”

Re-Read 2021
So yeah, again, I didn't review when I originally read this 9 years ago but I obviously loved it based on the shelving and rating.
Fast forward 9 years and with every intention of reviewing the month of February just got away from me so this will be short and sweet.
I think I loved it again but man, there were some things that made me crazy this go round!
Mike Haines being one of them and really, I don't even put any blame on him.
But, my love for Joe just makes the rest disappear so I'm ...more

Review to come.
Review to come.

4 & 1/2 stars!! Loved it. I just had a problem with Vi's actions sometimes. The 'scales' and 'fill you up... full to bursting' moments were so Damn sweet. I loved the side characters too, and the one scene where another of Vi's loved ones died... Yeah I had tears sneaking out of my eyes. Joe's family was awesome! Such a beautiful ending even without the long epilogue I had expected. I will re-read this someday soon.
