3.5 stars, I think…

A Matter of Time, Vol 2 consists of books 3 & 4 in the Matter of Time series. I finished book 2 last month, so I figured I would have no problem jumping into book 3. Boy, was I wrong. I actually had to check my kindle to make sure I was reading book 3 and not another book. I know that there is a 3 year gap between books 2 & 3, but I still felt completely lost with the story line and characters I could not remember. **Audio Re-Read, 2024**

Ahhh...Honestly I think I will never ever, ever tire of this story. Ever. I will forever want to read and re-read about Sam and Jory. FOREVER!

The end, the wedding, didn't bother me as much this time. I don't know. Maybe I am just desensitized to it after so many reads. Who knows?

Still crazy and still just the best. I'd love to bump this up to 5★'s, I don't know why I ever rated it lower than that to begin with.

A Matter of Time volume two continues on with Jory story. Set three years after the first volume ends, we find out that Jory has moved on with his life after Sam left him alone in the hospital to go undercover and bring down the criminals who were targeting him. In the meantime, Jory’s had a boyfriend, but is now back in the club scene picking up guys, essentially trying to start his life again without Sam in it. That is until Sam struts back into town and begs Jory to take him back. Th 2.5 stars

A Matter of Time volume two continues on with Jory story. Set three years after the first volume ends, we find out that Jory has moved on with his life after Sam left him alone in the hospital to go undercover and bring down the criminals who were targeting him. In the meantime, Jory’s had a boyfriend, but is now back in the club scene picking up guys, essentially trying to start his life again without Sam in it. That is until Sam struts back into town and begs Jory to take him back. Throw in a crazed serial killer and Jory is in trouble…again.

I wanted to like this book, but there were just too many issues that could not be glossed over this time. For example, from book two to book three, we jump ahead three years. Suddenly, Jory’s ex-boss/adopted brother (Dane Harcourt) is getting married and there is no explanation of how or why it happened. Since there was so much time spent in book one about Dane and his love life, I would have expected more of a build-up about his romance. (Actually, I thought he was gay, so I was truly surprised when he married a woman.) The jump forward in time felt jarring and completely messed with the tone of book three, in my opinion. I felt lost for a good three chapters.

Couple in the fact that I still did not find Jory to be a believable character — he’s sort of MacGyver, Jason Bourne and Brad Pitt all rolled into one — and I was lost as a reader trying to find any sympathy for such a silly unrealistic character. Now I still loved Sam, Jory’s ex-police officer boyfriend, who does about everything and anything under the sun to win Jory back; but unfortunately Jory left me cold. The addition of the serial killer plot did not add to the plot, in fact, it detracted from it. I felt there was enough going on in Jory’s love life to warrant that as the main plot, so the addition of some psycho murderer pulled me away from the emotional element of Sam and Jory’s renewed relationship.

Overall, A Matter of Time (both volumes) had some good things going for it: a likeable main character in Sam Kage, great secondary characters in the Kage family and some of Jory’s friends; but ultimately this volume lacked a cohesive plot and pivotal focal point for the hero. Because of that, I am sorry to say I cannot rate this book any higher.

Okay there are different things that I didn't like about these two books - 3 years, seriously 3 years from book 2 to book 3??? Hated that. Didn't like that we started off with Dane's wedding but we get no real background between them. I kind of figured out who the killer was but not the craziness behind it all.
