This is definitely a case of “it’s me, not you”. I read this book as a buddy read, and all the other ladies loved it, 4-5 stars, and even jumped into books 2 & 3. I totally get why, but I really struggled with this one. The writing was good, but it had a NA feel to it, which I definitely was not expecting. The slow burn, between Jamie and Kage, was maybe a little too slow, and I found myself skipping paragraphs wanting something to happen.

All the way through this book I just kept thinking......

I couldn’t help it. I laughed.
“What’s so funny?” He loosened his grip slightly.
“I’m sorry. It’s just that every time I hear Rear Naked Choke… Well, it just sounds dirty.”
“You just have a filthy fucking mind,” he teased.
I made a sound of protest. “You’ve gotta admit it sounds dirty.”
“Nah,” he said, his voice low and seductive right beside my ear. “It’s only dirty if you do this.”
He dropped his right hand onto my thigh and ran his fingers delibe “I’m going to show you how to do a Rear Naked Choke.”
I couldn’t help it. I laughed.

He dropped his right hand onto my thigh and ran his fingers deliberately up under the fabric of my shorts. His fingertips caressed the front of my underwear, skimming over my dick, and my entire body tensed.
But just as quickly as it had happened, it was over, and Kage was laughing quietly at my ear.

Jesus Christ the sexually tension between these two. They were just piling it up and I was going crazy. Kage is really interesting and I have no fucking clue what is wrong with him. He is clearly messed up. Jamie is well Jamie, he is that mix between adorable, smart and in certain situations really dumb. He can also be really funny. I was little bit confused a times, because these two were sending weird messages at each other and the reader. Jamie is probably bi, I don't really know where to put him. I also got the feeling his character (Jamie) was sometimes all over the place. He is presented as this manly man who is plowing his girlfriend on a regular basis, but his attitude and the way he holds himself changes quite a lot throughout the book. What I'm trying to say is I got the impression this was going to be a book about two alfa males going at it, but Jamie sometimes just didn't act like it. Ok I'm babbling so I'm going to shut up now. The ending left me a bit confused, because I understood Kage was mad at Jamie for not acknowledging their relationship, or telling his parents about them. But then Jamie tells him
“You think I’m good enough to fuck, but not worthy of being your boyfriend? Well, guess what? I don’t want the job anymore. Good luck finding another man for the position. It’ll take two to fill the vacancy I left.” So who is mad at who here?

Despite these little things that left me confused I loved it. The scene where Jamie, Kage and Vanessa were high is fucking golden. I think I reread it a few times.
“I haven’t felt like this in a long time,” I mumbled. “This is some good shit.”
“Mmm hmm,” Kage agreed, dropping down onto his back right beside me, his hip nearly touching mine. “Very nice.”
I can't wait to read the next one and see what happens and maybe get a better perspective on some things.

P.S. It might not be such a bad idea to start watching MMA fights.

On hold until it gets closer to the second book. Why did I not know beforehand it was gonna be a cliffy, I'll tell you why. The summary intrigued me. It kidnapped me, locked me in a room and said READ ME NOW or else face the consequences. I dislike cliffhangers so much lol. Will continue reading closer to next book release. Love what I've read so far. Kage *sighs* Kage...where is mine huh??? I freaking love him, Jamie's good too but everyone else can take him if they leave me Kage. ...more
