Another great entry in the Black Dagger Brotherhood series. I was so looking forward to the story of Sola and Assail. They have great chemistry and the twins and Grandma are wonderful.

Ward has really settled into this series. The original ones were mainly about one couple at a time. However, she does a great job of keeping you updated with the other characters. Heroes and villains, as well as introducing new ones she'll deal with later.

Assail had a drug problem. After he saved the blood slave in a previous book, he checked himself in to kick his cocaine habit. This leaves him almost dead. His cousins go to find the woman he loves in the hopes that she can pull him out of it.
And she does. Assail makes a swift recovery and takes Marisol (Sola) and her grandmother to his home. He decides to quit all illegal activities in addition to quitting drugs. This doesn’t help the Brotherhood in the long run because he was th Where to begin.

And she does. Assail makes a swift recovery and takes Marisol (Sola) and her grandmother to his home. He decides to quit all illegal activities in addition to quitting drugs. This doesn’t help the Brotherhood in the long run because he was their arms supplier.
Of course, in the BDB-verse, the course of true love never runs smoothly. Assail isn't aware he has an enemy. It is recapped to readers that Marisol had been kidnapped and Assail saved her. Assail didn’t know he had been captured on camera and the last sibling of the men who took Sola is out for revenge.
While all this is happening, Marisol’s grandmother has been admitted to hospital following a fainting spell and Marisol discovers Assail is a vampire. She is determined to leave him.
It comes to a head when Assail goes to meet a contact to set Vishous up with an arms dealer, Marisol insists on going with, so he won’t be murdered. The sister of the men who kidnapped Marisol recognises him and shoots before asking questions.
Later while Assail is recovering in hospital, Marisol goes and kills the sister.
She realises she loves him, and everything ends happily.
Meanwhile Vishous basically cheats on Jane, she discovers it, they argue, and she leaves. They are thrust together when the new threat injures V and Jane tries to heal it. They quickly work out their differences in time for Jane to become corporeal in front of a bullet aimed at Phury’s head. She doesn’t die since technically she is already dead, they work their way back to each other well.
Throe is making waves. This book he has been using to create these shadows was stolen from the Sanctuary where V’s mother (their deity) once lived. Hollow-point bullets with her sacred water are the only thing that kills them. Only certain beings can access the sanctuary which indicates there is a traitor among the Brotherhood and its close people.
I suspect it could be Lassiter, he is an angel who their deity (The Scribe Virgin) chooses as her replacement. He has been skulking around unhappily for a few books, leaving cryptic remarks about their enemy needing to be wiped out. Did he release this book to facilitate this? Or was it one of the Chosen (exalted women bred for their blood)? Was it a Brother? Not knowing who released this book is the only interesting part about this Throe plot line.
And zombies? Really? Personally, I think it was possibly a “jump the shark” moment for the series, but time will tell.
This book moved at a faster pace than recent instalments. I was more interested in what was happening with V and Jane than any other character, including the main couple. The entire story line of the sister out for revenge seems to be there solely to facilitate a reunion between Assail and Marisol after she discovered his true species.
