As Lloyd introduces Shaun to his lifestyle he realizes how he has missed a connection with another person. Shaun’s responses to Lloyd are based on his programming but he craves just as much companionship as Lloyd. Evolving more than Lloyd could have ever envisioned, it appears that Shaun can feel human emotions and this takes them into a completely new level.

“I didn’t want to make him do anything. I wanted him to be my equal.”

This book’s theme certainly intrigued me from the beginning due to the moral questions surrounding a relationship between a human and synthetic creation. For Lloyd, he didn’t view Shaun as a robot but always treated him as he would a person. With the complexities of microprocessors and cutting edge technology, Shaun becomes more than just circuitry making this process interesting and quite entertaining.

“I traced my thumb across his bottom lip which slid with lube, like lip gloss. I couldn’t resist the urge to bend down and kiss him, plunging my tongue into his mouth.”

The idea of personalizing your own male android is very appealing and the naughty options are endless! But in this story, there is also balance between companionship, humanity and love. I related to some of Lloyd’s idiosyncrasies and admired his morals. As for Shaun, he made me laugh and as the plot developed, I easily connected with his character. The chemistry between Lloyd and Shaun is off the charts too.

This author is new to me and I enjoyed her writing style combined with an original plot. Evolved is a MM romance story that addresses how society might advance bringing both positive and negative changes. This book would appeal to those who like the unconventional in relationships.

2.5 a 3, lamentablemente no he sido capaz de 'creerme' que el androide sea 'algo más' y debo decir que voy añadir este tipo de relaciones en mi carpeta de squicks porque me he sentido muy incómoda leyéndolo... no sé si ha sido que está en primera persona o qué, pero no es el primero que leo con estas características, pero si el primero que no me ha dejado disfrutar de la historia. You could create your perfect soul mate. Oooommmmmgggg. What's to like: I’ll be honest, at first I wasn’t so sure about this whole…robot/android deal. It’s one thing to watch it on tv but reading cyborg romance isn’t my usual trope, so I was tip-toeing into it with trepidation. I believe it worked so well for me because of Shaun. I thought he was…well, pluperfect. Side-note, who knew that is a real word? Ha! Not me! I love it. In case you are in the dark as I was, pluperfect means; “more than perfect”. And that is exactly what Shaun is. Floyd is pretty great too, but Shaun quickly won my heart. It was freaky that this was set only 40 years into the future. I’m not sure if I’m prepared for a world with bionic people blending in with humans in my lifetime. Nevertheless, I was captivated and intrigued and very much enjoyed the journey of Floyd and Shaun.

What's to love: I believe the power of this story lies with the birth of Shaun and witnessing his progression into a complex ‘being’ with a full range of unexpected emotions. Floyd is lonely but finicky when it comes to messy humans. It was his objective to create a companion who was fastidious and studious with the bonus of sexually pleasing as well. He never fathomed that he would also receive a potential mate with wit, charm, and a personality that not only checks all his boxes but obliterates them. Walker delivers a tender but passionate romance between these two and I was equally smitten. Once they discover Shaun is special, everything changes. They both know it’s only a matter of time before “they” come for him and flying under the radar isn’t simple in their world. I was nervous and scared and then struck with wonder. The epilogue was especially satisfying.

Beware of: Erotic romance with an android is well, surprisingly sexy! Things begin a little slow but don’t worry when the adrenaline kicks in, I guarantee your heart will beat triple time.

This book is for: If sci-fi is your thing or if you are drawn to the what if’s of the future, I imagine this will tickle your fancy. I also recommend all NR Walker fans check this one out (if you haven’t), it truly is some of her best work!
