What Members Thought

2.5 stars
After reading and loving Fresh Catch, I was really looking forward to Hard Pressed. Sadly, I was disappointed.
We first met Annette in Fresh Catch, and she is heart broken when she finds out the man she has been in love with, is in love with another man. This irked me because she has been crushing on Owen for years, yet he never showed any interest in more than a friendship. Didn’t she get the message? It just all seemed a little like high school drama to me. Her inner dialogue plucked ...more

UPDATED 6/29:
I did a joint review with my friend Michelle, which you can find on After Dark Book Lovers at http://www.afterdarkbooklovers.com/20...
There’s a fair bit of GIF-gushing there, so I’ll try and keep it to a minimum here.

Ok, fine. Let’s pretend I’m not about to word-vomit all up in here, shall we?

Looks like I’m an outlier with this review, and I am bummed because I was really excited about this book based on the blurb, but I honestly just never liked Annette. I had so many issues with her, and I did not understand what Jackson ever saw in her. He was so sweet and sexy, and overly understanding and patient. I think he deserved a lot better. 🙁

I loved the cover on this one and the blurb responded to my need for something light and romantic without all the angst and darkness of what I've settled on for several weeks now. Although I found a lot to like, I just never felt this story was fully developed. There were so many unanswered questions and dangling ends. The big case the sheriff and FBI were working on together was so inadequately covered and who the heck did they arrest? What's the deal with Brooke keeping her father's situation

I don’t think I could possibly love this story, these characters more. Hard Pressed is swoony, romantic, funny, and managed to tug at my heartstrings! It is the second book in the Talbott’s Cove series, but a standalone story.
“It was an easy smile and an easier warmth. It was hair that couldn't decide whether to curl or wave and did a little of both. It was thick, delicious thighs that parted like the pages of a book, opening to my favorite chapter. It was the quietly devastating way she took m ...more

2.5-3 Stars. BR w my TPAM girls.
I have loved all of this author’s books in the past but this one I didn’t. I really liked Jackson. Brooke was hilarious. Annette annoyed me, but my real issue here was that I just didn’t feel the connection with this couple. I didn’t feel the love, something was just missing for me here. I also felt like the writing style felt a bit different here than what I’m used to from this author- there was so much inner dialogue at the beginning. I almost felt like the cha ...more

I love everything Kate writes. When I read one of Kate’s books, I know I’m going to be entertained and nothing else will get done that day. Hard Pressed was no exception.
Annette and Jackson....sigh. Jackson was the heart of this story. He knew what he wanted and he was willing to be patient. That is what I loved most about Jackson. “ I understand that you’re not ready,” he replied. But know this: I’m not going anywhere. I’m right here, waiting for you.” Jackson.....sigh.

4.5 stars for - Hard Pressed - by Kate Canterbary. This is the second book to come out of the sleepy little town of Talbott's Cove and I for one hope it is not the last! Fresh Catch introduced us to the folks in this coastal town in Maine where everyone knows each other and gossip is their favorite past time.
