Sigh. I've been trying to decide if I read this at the wrong time, hurricane, no power, or if I've just outgrown this type of story. I think, I just didn't like a lot of the parts of the story so it made it difficult to like the whole story. I’m positive I’ll be in the minority with this review so just ignore me.

I had a little Dory singing in my head and I'm so glad I listened.
Because I almost gave up.
Yep, I just about threw in the towel and called it.
But I didn't.
And I'm SO glad.
Because I ended up really really enjoying it.
It's completely over the top.
It's dripping cheese. And milk too!
It's full of extreme eye-rolling.
AND it totally worked.
Brooks left his suffocating small town and never looked back. Then a call from home cracks his shell and he heads back.. ...more

Among all the usual Lucy Lennox (and May Archer) shenanigans there is a gem in this story.

This was book 1 in the
"Licking Thicket"
series. This was a really good read Brooks Johnson is going home for the first time in 10 years his father Red is having heart problems and his mother ask him to come to help with Licking festival. He needs a boyfriend because his parents don't think he is gay, so he asks his coworker Paul to be his fake boyfriend. I had a hard time with this one. I'm not a huge humor type of gal and it really has to catch me for me to like/love it. The humor was just way OTT for me. I ended up skimming most of the book, except for when they were together as they did make a very cute couple.

I think this is a case of ‘it’s not you, it’s me’!
It was funny in parts, but I’m not going to lie, I hopped, skimmed and jumped parts. I may return and do a reread at some point in the future. But for now it’s only a 3 star!
