It has been a hot minute since I have read a good mafia romance. But once I saw Catherine Wiltcher had a new release A London Villain, I dropped everything and solely focused on one thing only, reading. Two things to know about Catherine Wiltcher, her rich story lines and ANGST are always a heavy hitter. A London Villain hits different it's unlike anything she has ever written.

As a fan, I should have been able to wax poetry about this book. However, I have had to mull over my thoughts for a few days to make sure that I do this review justice. It's no secret that my favorite character is The Senator (Devils and Dust). If he's not going to make an appearance, then my interest takes a hardcore nosedive.

Story Time: I opened my copy. I flipped through the pages, and something caught my eye in the Forward. "A London Villain is my loose interpretation of The Count of Monte As a fan, I should have been able to wax poetry about this book. However, I have had to mull over my thoughts for a few days to make sure that I do this review justice. It's no secret that my favorite character is The Senator (Devils and Dust). If he's not going to make an appearance, then my interest takes a hardcore nosedive.

Story Time: I opened my copy. I flipped through the pages, and something caught my eye in the Forward. "A London Villain is my loose interpretation of The Count of Monte Cristo (Alexandre Dumas)." If you're not familiar with the story, the main character is wrongly convicted of a crime so that another man can take his place. It's a story of false accusations, the pain they cause, and the power of revenge. This was my favorite classic novel as a kid. That one sentence completely changed my reading perspective. Bare minimum, I was going to lose myself in the plot, and hopefully, never find my way out.

The Raven.The Beast. The Viper. The Devil. The Shadow

New Players. Old Players. It feels like the band is getting back together in London to do criminally negligent things. I have never read Black Skies Riviera where The Raven and The Beast first make their appearance. You can tell though within the first couple of chapters that they have a history that was forged in blood. It's not hard to see what shaped them into men. The Devil and The Shadow are their normal charming selves. As the new character, the Viper steals the scene. He's a combination of all the above. He's deadly but funny at the same time.

Here's the only thing that I would have to caution about. The one thing that has always set these books a part is that each couple has their own dynamic. Frankie and Ada were clearly devoted to each other. I never doubted that they deserved their happy ending. The problem is that at times they resembled the Devil and his Alma. It was almost to the point where if I hadn't known better, I could have made the couples interchangeable. I honestly think this is just a minor issue, but I wanted to make a mention of it.
