It is a shame that Robert Altman is no longer alive, because he could create a film masterpiece out of this wonderful story spanning generations, continents, and beautifully intertwining the fates of so many characters. At times the shifts between stories can be jarring, but in the final chapter, as Walter pulls it all together, you overlook those quick changes of pace, because you realize that he was working towards a beautiful finale.
