I normally do not read murder mystery series, but as long as J.K. Rowling keeps writing them, I guess I have to make an exception. I think The Silkworm was better than The Cuckoo's Calling as Rowling becomes more comfortable with her characters and her new style. She weaves a tightly wound mystery that keeps you guessing till the big reveal. Her characters, especially Comoran Strike, are deep and thoughtfully constructed. It was hard to keep track of the characters in the story and in the Bombyx story and remember what was said about who...but in general a good read.
