A fun read with a fascinating premise.
Without waxing poetic or stewing in philosophical musings, the author explores what makes us human.
You can take or leave this idea and simply enjoy a brief sci fi adventure where scientific exploration is interrupted by greed and violence.
The language is direct, but still paints simple, captivating images of another planet, a terrifying predator and violent conflicts. The author addresses the story with broad strokes and gives more detail to the evolution ...more

Read the first time on kindle - loved it.
Listened the second time on audiobook - still great, but I found the narrator distracting. Odd, unnatural pauses and emphases. Also very male-sounding for an androgynous character. (This particularly threw me off, because on my first read the voice was more feminine.)

When I kept hearing about this book, I wasn't sure it was for me but I decided to give it a try. I immediately started to like Murderbot. There are questions that Murderbot asks themself which can pertain to life for anyone. There is also the mystery of what is really happening on the mission which kept me intrigued.

2 Unrepentant Stars..

'Discovered' a new-to-me author and listened to book 1 in the Murderbot Diaries based on a Sword and Laser recommendation. LOVED IT! Can't wait to read the other books in the series.
