I just finished this book today and I'm so thankful that it's over. It was a good start but lost me somewhere in the middle and I was just enduring to the end. I read this in prep for visiting Salem, MA and the House of the Seven Gables. Maybe seeing the house will bring a greater appreciation of the novel. I now understand why The Scarlet Letter is assigned reading in high school instead of this one. Hawthorne is a great writer but I don't think I enjoyed because I knew too much about the story
