I literally cannot put into words how much I love this book.

This book literally gave me a new standard of enemies to lovers. Jude and Cardan ar Okay, so I read this book back in January and thought how the heck did I not write a review? It was my first book of 2025 and I finished it in like three days and it was a FRICKEN AMAZING WAY TO START THE YEAR!!

I literally cannot put into words how much I love this book.

This book literally gave me a new standard of enemies to lovers. Jude and Cardan are literally perfect and soulmates. Do they hate each other so much that they can hardly breathe sometimes? Yes, but that's them just not admitting they have feelings for each other. Like Cardan is so bad at showing his feelings that he literally tries to drown Jude in a river. Like my guy has no idea how to show his feelings.

The only scene that gave me the absolute ick and so much second-hand embarrassment that I thought I was going to die from it was the scene where Jude ate the Faerie fruit unknowingly. That whole scene had so much second-hand embarrassment I had to physically put the book down because it was too much.

The scene were Dain made Jude stab her hand totally changed my perspective on the guy. I thought he was actually a great guy and nice BUT NOOOOO. EVERYBODY HAS TO SUCK IN SOME WAY!!

And when I found out that Cardan was getting beat by his brother it made me so sad. He doesn't deserve that. And it was low-key giving Maxon from the Selection in that moment.

Also, Cardan is a freakin sweetheart. This line, "I'm nervous," he says. "I smile a lot when I'm nervous. I can't help it." IS SO CUTE. THE FACT THAT HE ADMITS IT!!

AND THE FACT THAT HE SENT HER THAT FRICKEN GORGEOUS DRESS FOR THE CORONATION JUST TO SEE HOW BEAUTIFUL SHE WOULD LOOK MAKES ME CRY EVERY TIME!!! HE IS LITERALLY SUCH A GENTLEMAN AND SWEETHEART AND WOULD BE SUCH A GIRL DAD (kind of random but like totally true)

AND LOCKE IS SO ANNOYING. HE IS LITERALLY PRINCE HANS OF THE SOUTHERN ISLE. HE SUCKS!! to be fair I low-key loved him in the beginning because he was causing drama between Cardan and Jude but then he took it way too far. And Taryn low-key sucks. I don't like her. And because I don't like her that is all I'm going to say about her because that pretty much sums her up as a person: terrible and sucky.

Other than that one scene I literally cherish this book so much. It is literally perfection and I can't get enough. ...more

I really really love this book. Because, I swear to freaking God, this is my favorite book of all time. The plot in this book? Perfect. If you asked me what was wrong with the book, I would say nothing. The plot is so meticulously crafted, the characters, and the setting. Honestly, I can see why people like this book, but personally, it just wasn’t for me. Maybe because I’m just not really a fantasy person or what, but I also wasn’t entirely fond of Holly Blacks writing, and I found Jude kinda annoying…sorry if that upsets anybody 😅

Okay so I LOVE this series.

Jude is such a badass and I love her for it, and Cardan is just a cutesy little pookie.

I find it hilarious that he kind of doesn’t really have a personality in the series? So is fangirls just made him one.

Like the amount of Pinterest pins that are just calling Cardan a pookie/malewife/justagirl/whimsical/coquette/cutesy are crazy. But I love it sm bc his personality we made him is just superb. 👏🏼

Honestly, after hearing everyone rave about this book on insta and tiktok i had high expectations for it but I dont know why i just really didn't like it.
