4 books into the series, we finally have a villain with some fairly nasty things happening. Young Ishmael's first job out of the Academy as a newly commissioned officer is aboard a disreputable trader with a mostly unseen Captain and a sadistic first officer. Ishmael is able to work his considerable charm and find allies, but doesn't really have time for "personal trading." Things take a different turn in "Double." Gone is the Lois and the familiarity it brings, and in comes a new crew, an unstable command structure and ship in need of Ish's help. Great stuff.
