I loved this book when I was growing up. I could relate to a the girls at one point or another and would read my favorite passages over and over.
I have read it more recently and I must admit that it doesn't grab me like it once did, however, I would still call it one of my favorite books. This is the only book that makes me want to have a little girl someday so that she can enjoy this book as much as I did. ...more

It is wonderful and strange to go back and re-read childhood favorites. While this is still infinitely readable and absorbing, it frustrates me how Jo's "rough edges" are rubbed away, and of course, the preachiness is a little harder to take than it used to be. I suggest "March" for a more twenty-first century interpretation of what's going on in the hearts and minds of a few of the favorite characters.
