What Members Thought

I really liked this book, particularly when I could connect both the obvious and the thinly veiled Olympia area references. Miles is the kind of kid that I would have a soft spot for if he were a regular at the library. I thought the ending was a bit abrupt, and I grew slightly tired of the fawning over Angie Stegner, but other than that it was a good solid read that taught me a lot about the ecosystem in the bay. I would have given it five stars if the ending had been a little more thoughtful.

The Highest Tide is young adult fiction set in Olympia. It is the story of a 13 year old boy, Miles, who quotes Rachel Carson and spends a lot of time in the tidal flats of Skookumchuck Bay, collecting sea life and watching the tides come and go. It's a coming of age story, an excruciating adventure into adolescence, and a love poem to the tide. It's like it was written for me to love it.

good local schwagg. But what book told from the point of view of a teenager is not complete without sexual tension and descriptions of a reporter's cleavage...I like Jim Lynch a lot.(in case he reads this)

Enjoyable & fun, filled with wonderful lessons about life and our environment from Miles. Set in Olympia, this book's definitely one to keep on my shelf since we live in Olympia. Plus it is written by Olympia's own Jim Lynch whose books I thoroughly enjoy reading.
