Milo is bored with everything. Nothing is interesting to him, until the Phantom Tollbooth appears in his room. Driving through, he arrives in The Lands Beyond, where everyone is very interested in words, or sounds, or perceptions, or numbers, and they are all very touchy about it. Everything is off kilter, and Milo finds himself volunteering to rescue the Princesses Rhyme and Reason, accompanied by Tock the Watchdog, and the Humbug. Wordplay ensues. Clever, funny, so artfully done. Yes, it is theoretically for children but that’s just an unfair label. Do yourself a favor and read this. Out loud, it’s even more wonderful.
