Half comic book, half children's adventure, half history of the movies. I wasn't sure I would like this when I picked it up, but the evocative pictures and the Paris setting drew me in.

This was one of the most creative books I've ever read -- I really loved how the story was told partly in words and partly in pictures. I love film, and this book definitely made me want to see the works of Georges Melies...I'd give this to a child to make them interested in movies beyond Pixar and Disney. I listened to the audio book of this which is weird because it's a book with a lot of pictures, apparently. However, the audio book is quite good, full of theatrics, sound effects and good voice acting. The story is delightful, educational, and touching. The characters were interesting and likable. Awesome concept, loved the mix of historical fiction, graphic novel-hybrid, some real pix. I'm a little less enthralled the second time through, but it really is groundbreaking and very accessible (not to mention educational!).
