I really appreciated how Phillips gets into the boy's head. Before high school, Cameron thrived - he was involved in boy scouts, he was an amazing runner, he was good at math. Now, because of a gender-misunderstanding at the first meeting of the sports teams his freshman year, Cameron is called "Cameron Diaz," and has been picked out as the special victim of one of the jocks on the football team. He lives in fear and has picked up the habit of playing with matches.
This kid's life really sucks.
