Dear God, if you only saw the movie, you are missing out. If you haven't PLEASE read it first. The big plot "reveal" is paced out so much better, the tension more palpable (also, the special bonus of not having that god-awful soundtrack that insists on leading everyone by the emotional nose with no subtlety), and the characters easier to sympathize with and understand. To be completely honest, my first thought upon finishing this book was "wow, what a mindfuck." LOL A great suspenseful thriller. Dennis Lehane has a great way with words and easily caught this reader up in his descriptions of people (physically & mentally) and places. I enjoyed the story and found myself surprised at the end, which is always a good sign with this genre. It was a page-turner for me, but that's nothing new!
