My favorite kind of hero – independently wealthy eccentric. Pursues the fourth dimension and with some crystals and brass can zip back and forth in time. Spectacularly unprepared on his first trip – no snacks or umbrella. Better preparation the second time, but that is the one he does not come back from!

It's kinda crazy that I had never read this before my book club decided on it as our November book. I listened to half of the book and read the other half, and I think it really helped me get into the rhythm of the writing style. H.G. Wells is a great writer. He somehow managed to combine eloquence with action in a way that keeps you enveloped in the language and the story at the same time.
