I understand why this might be called a Masterwork. It really is beautiful and complex, epic and ambitious. Personally, I connected with the adoption story, at least in its early stages (;)).

A truly beautiful book. The calligraphy, the story, characters, and weaving of classic stories was absolutely wonderful. My two favorite things about this book is the gorgeous calligraphy work and the blending of stories form the Quran. This was very reminiscent of Siddhartha an alternate telling of a classic tale, and I absolutely fell in love with it. Highly, highly recommended.

+ Really really intricate. Hundreds of gorgeous panels. My love and knowledge of Arabic and calligraphy rewarded me.
- Occasionally, dialog or narration failed to complement (at best) or (at worst) detracted from exquisite art.
~ Thompson does some weird stuff with chronology. He tells the story out of sequence, which I didn't like (though this is not something I dislike generally). He also weaves the main story ambiguously across some unclear past and some approximate now – an eventual unveiling ...more
