I really wanted to love this book, and I did love the atmosphere, the Cemetary of Forgotten Books, the mystery. But by the end, I felt like I'd been on a wild goose chase. There was so much build up, that the end couldn't live up to it, for me. ...more

It's not often that I give a book this many stars but I REALLy enjoyed it. Zafon's writing is smooth and his characters are engaging and endearing. I can't say too much about the plot because I feel anything I might put down would give away the ending. In addition to a fantastic story (about a book!!) it is a mystery too. I had part of it figured out. The part that I didn't have figured out, was plainly evident once unveiled (doh!). This is a 500 page book that I was able to complete in 3 weeks ...more

This is one of my all time favorites. Gothic in the true sense. The City of Forgotten Books is so well described I can picture it down to the driping moist walls.
