Ah, how refreshing -- a fun book! I've been reading some seriously heavy depressing stuff recently, and this book was exactly what I needed. I LOVED the author's sardonic wit -- I definitely laughed out loud at some of the main character's descriptions of his thoughts, I loved the variety of supernatural beasts involved (were-things, necromancers, witches, oh my!), I loved the dark dark humor. I also learned some things -- for example, I learned that Samhain is actually pronounced "Sowin". The o

Despite this being a paranormal teen novel, there are no vampires in this book, or teens with destiny. Sam is a college dropout working at a burger joint with no direction in life, when a game of potato hockey in the parking lot breaks a car tail light and sets into motion a really bizarre chain of events. The owner of the car is a necromancer named Douglas, and eeeevil.

For older teens (high school) and others who want a quirky, witty paranormal romp. I'm pretty smitten with this one.

A fairly standard hidden hero story, but with the twist of hereditary necromancy and fairy tale creatures. hidden powers get revealed and a love story in the middle. Strange politics between all the fairy creatures and of course the wolf pack in action. The talking head was a good touch. Suitably creepy and sets up the forbidden and corrupt powers of the original necromancer.

Sam is an ordinary 19-yr-old working his everyday job at Plumpy’s, a fast-food restaurant. Everything is changed one day by a chance encounter with a very scary customer. One who targets Sam as his rival and tells Sam he can either join him or die. Horribly. Things get real weird, real fast. Sam discovers he has the ability to raise the dead and that a whole slew of vampires, werewolves, and witches live amongst the normal citizens of Seattle, Washington. This book is funny, gory and fantastic.
