It still amazes me that Bill Bryson is from Des Moines but sounds so very British when he reads his books for audio book. This is a highly enjoyable book, a story of boyhood/childhood, imagined super powers of a kid (assumed identity: the thunderbolt kid), and the strange glorious heyday of America in the 1950s. Bryson is a hilarious storyteller, and he is in fine form with boys' lust for naked women, appreciation for hijinks and trouble, dis-appreciation for authority figures, movie theater mat ...more
